i dont do much cruising these days, so my opinion aint worth much,
but for a dink, I'd think twice about a 4 stroker. Weight is an issue,
but more so than that, the fact that (unless things have changed with
them) you cant lay them over on their sides presents a huge storage issue.
OK, you can honk them to a mount on the pushpit, but do you really
want that thing up there in a line squall with a 60 kt gust front
bearing down on you? I dont. I'd put that puppy below and hope
that it doesnt fall over and spill all that crank oil up into the valves
and cylinders and what-all.
Better than that, I'd have a 2-stroke that weighs 20 pounds less and I'd
toss it
below and worry about keeping the boat upright, not the
outboard motor below.
Little yamaha 3.5 two stroker, short shaft is a cheapo, liteweight
extremely reliable unit.
my advice worth egg-zacklee what was paid!

Any suggestions on long shaft vs. short for a dingy? Would also
consider as an aux engine for my 27 if primary failed. Considering a
Honda 4 stroke. Your suggestions appreciated.
