I really like using an all-chain rode for my primary anchor--a boat with all chain behaves so much better at anchor, and I'm ready for coral reefs in case any appear in the Great Lakes <grin>. I'm preparing to purchase a drum of 1/4" Acco HT G4 hot-dip galvanized windlass chain. This is premium grade stuff, stamped every link, really strong, and weighs about 72 pounds per 100 feet. My intention is to put 200 feet into the chain locker of our 1977 C27, and sell the rest. I'd be looking at a sale price of about $2.25 a foot, including delivery to the lower 48 states--which I think is pretty amazing, considering what it costs to freight this stuff. Is anybody else interested in either long lengths or some 10-25 foot pieces to splice between your anchor and a nylon rode? I'd like to know ASAP to make sure I can afford a whole drum...
