Subject: catalina27-talk: Glow Plug relay test

I am still trying to figure out how to get the glow plugs working in my Perkins M20 Perama.  Since this is a new boat to me, maybe I am doing something wrong and don't realize it.  The key switch has 4 positions.  In the third (run) position, the engine low oil pressure and battery discharge lights come on and the blower works, etc.  I was initially thinking this position would also activate the glow plugs, but then as I thought about it, the plugs would be activated all the time the engine was running which doesn't make sense.  The 4th position is to engage the starter.  When in the run position, I have 12V on the brown feed wire to the glow plug relay, but nothing to the wire which runs from the relay to the glow plugs.  What switch position is designed to activate the glow plugs?  How do I check to ensure the relay is working ok?  What voltage should be sent to the plugs?  On other boats I had a separate glow plug switch apart from the starter button.  This is driving me crazy.  AARRGHH!

Any help is appreciated.
