I guess I’m going to be a wet blanket here.

It should certainly be a reinforced hose, but it should also be marine grade. If a USCG boarding party could see a marine use approval marking on the hose they would see that as a violation. Ok what are the odds of that now that they are in Homeland Security but still there was a reason for them to check this.

I believe if you ask Napa Auto Parts for a marine grade hose will get some in for you if they don’t stock it. It’s fine to shop wisely but this is one of those items that can sink a boat, so be safe about it.

Thanks Dave, anything to avoid that "marine" markup. I'll stop in at the auto parts store on my way down tomorrow...

I usually end up cutting off old hoses - so it's at least common. As to replacement hoses - you need to use re-enforced water hoses. You can get it a WM but you'll find that the same hose sold as heater hose at the auto supply place is cheaper. You want a rigid hose so when it gets warm in the engine compartment it doesn't collapse and shut off the water supply. That's why I use the heater hose. Don't use the clear hose with the pretty red and white reenforment threads.

Hi all,

I am replacing the kaput Sherwood water pump on my Universal M2-12 diesel this weekend and need to replace the hoses as well. Any particular kind I need to use? The former intake one looks more robust (lots of wires built inside it, a bear to take off, had to cut it) than the outtake; is this normal?

Thanks for any info!
