I bought the cheapest of the Icom units when I saw it on sale. (Personal preference but I think they make great stuff) Then mounted it to the ceiling on the starboard side just in the hatch. This way it is easy to hear it in the cockpit without an extra speaker and the mic is close enough you can get it without going below.

 

I couldn’t be happier with the setup. It works reliably and is mounted in the right place and didn’t cost an arm and a leg.
