Thankfully, I have not had to do this, but Andy may want to consider Don’s repair approach to simplify the project.  The picture of the replacement unit on the CD site makes it appear that the new part is not predrilled, which would complicate the job somewhat, and require investment in some pretty long drill bits.

Subject: Re: catalina27-talk:Cracked Bowsprit

Depends on where is cracked.  Mine was cracked on both sides, about an inch from the aft edge, running forward.  Happened when the bobstay let go (another story).  There is a long bolt that runs all the way thru, so there is really no where for it to go.  I took mine off and coated it with epoxy.  Then left it compressed in a vise for a few days.  CD does sell them, $206.99.  I can't remember if you can do it without removing the SS plate that attaches to the deck.  Mine was bent, so I had to remove the entire thing.  To remove the plate,  you will have to access 4 nuts thru the access port in the anchor locker.  Everything else is straight forward.  If you sail in salt water and the bobstay is over 10 years old, definitely change it.

To All Tall-Rig Owners

I need some advice.  I have developed a rather large crack in my Bowsprit.  So large in fact, I am afraid to unfrurl my Genny for fear that it will come off completely in a heavy wind. (It's a good thing this happened at the end of the sailing season). I contacted Catalina and asked if they have a replacement teak bowsprit and what would the cost be.  My question...Has anyone changed the Bowsprit on their Tall-Rig boat?  If so, how difficult was it to do?  (It dosen't look hard, only removing and replacing bolts).  Next Question: Am I kidding myself as to the degree of difficlty?  (I have learned from experience, that nothing is what it seems with a boat repair!!!!)

Thank you in advance list
