Yeah, it's a whole different race around here! Currents pushing and pulling
all that water into and out of the Pacifuc through Juan de Fuca & Haro
Straights are huge factors in racing, expecially in choke points and where
the water rushes around the south end of Vancouver Island. We have one mark
off the Victoria waterfront locally known as Quarentine Buoy that we call
"the mark from hell" at times we have spent hours tacking back and forth
trying to get there, but the current just wont let it happen. Only hope is
that it changes before the time runs out.
In our biggest race of the year "Swifsure" each May many boats trying to get
throug Race Passage end up anchoring for hours until the ebb tide can get
them past Race Rocks.
