On mine, I just removed the bracket and pulled it off, it was VERY easy. 2 - 3 minute job. You must have a different set-up. I never changed the original filter, I just replaced it with the kenworth / detroit diesel filter when the original one crushed itself from becoming clogged. Has been trouble free ever since (years).
