The answer is a definite "maybe".   It depends on what kind of battery switch you have. The problem is that your alternator will not be a happy camper if all of a sudden you throw the switch and there's no load.  Some switchs will break the connection to the batteries when you switch between settings that's a no no for your alternators health. Others don't break the connection until it's connected to the next batter position and in that case the alternator will always see a load.

I used a hair dryer to warm up vinyl lettering on a window so that I could get hold of an end and start pulling it off.  It came off in pieces.  Goo-Gone will get rid of the adhesive residule. Below are a couple of links regarding removing vinyl letters:
