Not sure if this applies to your situation but my 85' had the same problem with odor and no apparent leaks. It turns out that the vent hose, which in the case of my 85' goes up into the anchor locker, was blocked with debris and it was also kinked where it makes a fairly sharp turn before entering the locker. I replaced that hose and problem solved. I recall having to add a 90 degree plastic fitting to better accommodate the sharp turn. It was neither expensive nor difficult. I suppose you could try disconnecting that hose from your tank and pumping air (or a flexible snake) through it to ensure that it's not blocked or kinked before actually replacing it.

Over time, they will become permeated with, shall we say, odor. The first thing you should try is replacing them - and don't skimp, use the highest-quality sanitary hose. What you'll find is that it is very stiff , hates bending, and needs the ends heated to get over the slip connections. It's a difficult and messy job. My '76 didn't have a holding system to begin with. In case it's any help, my installation is detailed at: http://www.ariasails.com/holdtank.html Chris -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Oct 11, 2007 9:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: catalina27-talk: Fwd: Waste tank replacement The season is ending for me but I am planing some work in the early spring. Number one on the list is to replace the holding tank. I have an 82 and it seems that there is a slight odor that originates from the holding tank compartment. Its not really foul but it is not sweet either. I have done a visual and find no leaks but I suspect the tank is original and is probably getting tired so I would like to replace it before it fails. I know Catalina direct sells replacements. Has anyone had experience replacing the holding tank?
