Not only Nautical but Everyday.. Here's some trivia for you.. (Even a good dictionary will give this info) The letter "A" used before a word, is an Anglo-Saxon derivation used as a modifier that indicates "to, on, in, at....". etc .. example: (a)board, (a)stern, (a)beam, (a)lee.. It's fun to go through dictionary words that start with "A" to try to identify the source. It's amazing to see how many words that probably came from Nautical use.
