It was nice to meet another lister in Joe today. We agreed to meet at the West Marine by my house to hand off his hats and I pull up and this guy in a C27 hat is standing out front talking to my best friend who happens to run the rigging shop there and races a C27 very effectively here in Annapolis. Julian is a pretty talkative guy, saw the hat and struck up a conversation with Joe. So we all said hello and I handed off the hats (Joe is modest he ordered 9 hats for a friend. I wish I had some friends that were willing to spend like that on me). FWIW Joe sent me a note a month or so ago asking about getting some hats for a friend that races a Melges on the West River. After a few more emails I realized I had raced on the boat once on a Wednesday night and another good friend of mine who is a designer races on it regularly. I got Larry involved and before you knew it a couple of hats with type on them turned into taking a photo and turning it into a vector file that needed to be "simplified" so it could be sewed. It took about 2 weeks of my designer (my wife) and Larry going back and forth, but we ultimately ended up with a rendering of the boat flying downwind under spin and looked great. It is a process we have been working on and are now convinced can be done. We have also taken a bunch of shots of other One Design boats and will be offering these up in the spring. When I picked them up today I asked if he would turn them around quickly and he said YES, 5 days.
