Dave, Although I have not had my 27 "out" yet, I can see how forward ballast
would be a help, up wind any way. The 27 hull is, after all, a "smoothed"
out IOR design (1/2 ton). Even so, 800# seems to be a bit excessive. Back in
the day, forward ballast was used extensively in the IOR boats. It was
certainly used on the Peterson 43 (and later a Frers 46) we sailed but I
don't remember it being nearly that much.
What effect did the 150# of water do for you?
