On the ballast question, and why the boat is not floating on its
lines, could it be the hull is taking on water via osmosis?

As the Catalina is extremely sensitive to weight distribution. I

think that the simple placement of crew would be sufficient. My
biggest
problem is balancing out all the beer and ice!!!
