Here in the Portland Oregon,Columbia River area we have the same problem from around July through August. I have used a Karcher Power Washer for over a dozen years. They are great for cleaning the decks and even will help with the Topsides. If you have the Brown Smile at the bow, like many of us, A power washer will knock about 50 percent of that. Some say "Oh never use it on your Teak." but if you hold it about 8 inches away it'll clean the Dirt off.. But on SPIDER Poo.... It just won't Doo0... The only thing I've found that will get the stuff off is regular old Fiber Glass Cleaner .. And , I'm sorry to say, Elbow Grease.. Good luck, Ralph Ahseln "Oblio" Gresham OR ----- Original Message ----- From: Russ Dearmore To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 29, 2008 4:58 PM Subject: catalina27-talk: Power Washers Here is the middle of the country among the more isolated inland lake sailors, we have a problem that the west and east coast cruisers may or may not have and that is wasps and spiders (I won't even mention the damn mosquitoes). I've been told the black residue that collects on our decks is from the spiders. A good brush with a long handle and Soft Scrub does a good job but is very labor intensive for us old geezers to say nothing of the back pain so I was wondering if the use of a power washer is recommended to remove that annoying black stuff, and if so which ones do the members use? What size is adequate without being expensive overkill? Bugged in Oklahoma.......Change your thinking, change your life.
