catalina27-talk: Rudder Shaft Lubricant?

I have pulled my rudder on my '81 C27-TR (for propeller shaft work) and am 
getting ready to re-install it.  I notice the old lubricant is thick and dry.  
I want to clean the rudder post shaft and re-lubricate it.  What should I use?
