When I did the race several years ago for several years running it was on a Tartan 33R (significantly bigger boat than a C27). Although, if the weather conditions were favorable the C27 would be fine. It is just a long race (9-12+ hrs depending on wind). I don't recall if there is a C27 fleet in that or not, there might be, if not there is a PHRF class for sure. Also, a lot would depend on how you raced the race; is it an all out, pedal to the metal, race OR just a more leisurely cruise down The Bay with 300-400 other boats. Some years the winds were NE at 5-10 knots and it was real sailing fun, other years it was SW winds blowing 20+ knots and it was wet wild and real long. Of course the anchorage at St Mary's is also fun with water balloon fights and bottle rockets and if I recall some guys actually had alcohol to drink. And then there was the party: most fin year was party in the rain for 1500 (tent would hold maybe 400).

Not saying I haven't/won't go down for the party, although it has changed a bit in the last decade when I first started going down.
