When I did the race several years ago for several years running it was on a
Tartan 33R (significantly bigger boat than a C27). Although, if the weather
conditions were favorable the C27 would be fine. It is just a long race
(9-12+ hrs depending on wind). I don't recall if there is a C27 fleet in
that or not, there might be, if not there is a PHRF class for sure. Also, a
lot would depend on how you raced the race; is it an all out, pedal to the
metal, race OR just a more leisurely cruise down The Bay with 300-400 other
boats. Some years the winds were NE at 5-10 knots and it was real sailing
fun, other years it was SW winds blowing 20+ knots and it was wet wild and
real long. Of course the anchorage at St Mary's is also fun with water
balloon fights and bottle rockets and if I recall some guys actually had
alcohol to drink. And then there was the party: most fin year was party in
the rain for 1500 (tent would hold maybe 400).

Joe -

The Solmons race is more than enough for me. I will do Gov Cup on bigger
boats but NEVER on a C27.

Not saying I haven't/won't go down for the party, although it has changed a
bit in the last decade when I first started going down. Freaking college
party nazi's (please forgive the connotation) that have held the party back
to only those over 21. Just make sure the underages don't drink, but don't
keep them from the st. Mary's Party.
