FWIW, when I first launched my '76 C27 in 1997, I replaced the wire/rope
halyards — main and jib — with all rope. The mast was down when I bought her,
so replacing the sheaves was easy. I got the sheaves from either Catalina or
Catalina Direct. I used the Sta-Set X, which Phil mentions. I'm not a racer,
but I pretty well keep up with everybody out on the bay when we're just out
sailing. If I have any stretch, it ain't much. BTW, I'm still using the same
halyards.
