Most trolling motors are rated in pounds of thrust. Find out what yours is and imagine trying to move your boat by being able to push just that hard on it. Ref: http://www.alltrollingmotors.com/ I use to own a 65lb trust Minn Kota that I expect would get it done in zero current and still air. I suspect it had the power in the range of a 2.5 - 3 hp outboard.
