Thank you all for your support. Below is a copy of the information I sent
out as a up-date to Adam's condition. We appreciate your kind words,
thoughts, and prayers.

Dave and Lisa Tierney

Just in case those receiving this have not heard: Our eldest son, Adam (19),
was in a severe car accident last night.  The driver of the car in which Adam
was riding was killed.  Adam suffered a puncture to his aorta, left lung,
possibly bowel, broken ribs, broken left leg, broken left arm, some bones
broken
in face, and the loss of some teeth.  He is now in critical but stable
condition after a series of surgeries today.

We were told that they had never had anyone with the aorta puncture Adam had
make it to the hospital much less through all the surgeries.  Part of Adam's
chest cavity or a piece of torn flesh actually was resting on the puncture of
the aorta and applying pressure which kept him extensive bleeding.  We thank
God for this and refer to it as God's finger plugging the hole.

The two chief cardiologists for the University of Maryland Hospital performed
the surgery to repair the aorta.  They used a new procedure that has only
been done a couple dozen times.  Instead of cutting open Adam's chest they went
through the groin and placed a stint in the aorta.  They said it worked great
and that Adam was very stable...we liked the use of the word very!

Since this is a new procedure they do not know long term issues.  The Surgeon
said when Adam is 70 he may have to do something with it.  We liked the idea
of 70!

The next two days are critical for Adam.  Please pray that his lungs continue
to function well.  They believe the left lung will get a lot worse before it
gets better.  So pray God will keep Adam's left lung from getting too bad and
that his right lung will have no problems arise from the accident.
I don't know how much this makes sense since I working on 2 hours sleep in
the last 46 hours.  But we will keep you posted.

We ask for no visitors outside of our family to visit Adam at this time.  He
will be kept in a medicine induced coma of the next several days.  We covet
your prayers for Adam.  Pray that his body will do what God designed it to do
and that is to heal and recover.  Pray all those working on Adam at the
University Hospital live up to their reputation and then some.

We trust Christ in all of this and completely recognize our need of Him as
the Great Physician.

Please remember the Bailey family.  Their son John (probably Adam's closet
friend) lost his life in this accident.  Ask God to surround them with the love
of Christ.

We thank you for all the outpouring of support.

Dave, Lisa, Conor, Ian, Aryana, and, of course, Adam Tierney
