Dear Friends:
A good, uneventful day. Adam was awake off and on today. His nurse, Rick,
was great and very informative. He had worked in the Shock Trauma area for
five years before coming to the Cardiac wing. It was nice to have someone
with experience in both fields watching over Adam.
They have to keep tweaking the medicines to get the results they need. One
medicine helps with pain but also suppresses breathing, one helps with blood
pressure but wakes him up, &c. The fluid levels in his body, too, affects the
medicine's effectiveness. It is a very fine line these doctors and nurses
walk in getting the numbers right.
The next thing to be done is to get Adam off the ventilator. This isn't so
easy since he has been on it, has had several surgeries, and has broken ribs.
They are trying to wean him but the process is extremely slow. They did an
MRI two nights ago to check Adam's spinal cord and we were told it is
"pristine.' Praise the Lord!
It was a very peaceful day to sit with Adam. Dave read out of a history
magazine to help Adam sleep. Lisa sat next to Adam, holding his hand and just
enjoyed watching him.
Lisa's parents, John and Peggy, came in from KY and that is a big help.
Dave's mom, Elsie, had been here a week ago Thursday through Tuesday morning.
NewDay Church folk have supplied the meals for our family. Many e-mails,
calls, and cards have encouraged us, too. Thank you all for your prayer and
support.
Adam is still restricted regarding visitors but we hope in another week we
can start scheduling folks to stop in to see him for a few minutes at a time.
Until then, if you would like to send him a card you can send it to our house
and we will make sure he gets it: 8422 Tachbrook Road, Baltimore, Maryland,
21236.
Pray
• God will continue to heal Adam, especially his left lung, so he can
breathe more on his own.
• For the doctors and nurses' discernment in plotting the course for
weaning Adam off the ventilator
• Adam will develop no infections
• For the right time in Adam's transfer back to Shock Trauma from the
Cardiac Care Unit
• and thank God for His continued watch care over Adam
Faith, Family, and Friends have certainly been our strength and comfort.
Dave, Lisa and family
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
compassion and the God of all comfort, 4who comforts us in all our troubles, so
that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have
received from God. 5For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our
lives,
so also through Christ our comfort overflows. 2 Corinthians 1:2-5 (NIV)
