Michael,

I grew up in a very small town. Everyone, except a few, were very poor. No one 
had Halloween Parties. I didn't go to a party until I was in High school. And 
that was in a large city.

The only thing we did in Kalama Washington (fish cannery and lumber mill) ..was 
Wear Masks.
I don't know if there is anyone on the list Old enough to remember those AWFUL 
..Cloth masks
Shaped by impregnated Starch.
About mid way through "Trick or Treat" the MOUTH of the mask was all misshapen 
and GOOEY..
Most of the time, by that time, the mask went off and we just Bare Faced the 
rest of the night.

Those were the years where all the town's windows would be SOAPED..  (bad kids 
used Wax)..And Outhouses were actually TIPPED OVER..

Things are a lot better these days..    LOL
