To be sure I understand you correctly, you did not remove any interior
woodwork, instead you drilled several holes and used injection foam to
insulate the ice box. First, were you successful in making it into a box
that keeps ice rather than the more traditional Catalina box that melts ice?
Second, is there a surrounding box around the ice box or were you just
filling a big area?

Lastly, I have been considering removing the through hull for the sink (I
rarely use the sink) and icebox and have them drain into the bilge. Has
anyone done this and if so, was it successful?

Layout

I drilled holes in the ice chest and sprayed insulation into the void
surrounding the chest then plugged the holes with plastic caps.

One of my winter projects is to replace the galley sink drain and insulate
the cooler in my '79 traditional layout. Any advice on getting access to
these?

It looks like I have to take the whole galley cabinet out, but I wanted to
confirm that. I took all the screws out that I could see holding that in,
but it appears that there are more on the aft end that I am missing because
that side is pretty tight yet.

There is a wooden bulkhead on the forward end of the port lazerette that
prevents me from getting to the aft side of the cabinet, so I am hoping the
screws are all inside the cabin. The battery charger and shore power
breaker and wiring is all attached to that bulkhead, so it would be a pain
to remove. Any hints and tricks are appreciated.
