Things I wish I'd known when I reset my stanchions.:

Use 3200 OR 5200. The last will get me in trouble since 5200 is very difficult, some say impossible, to remove. Along the way, some professional told me that it was Not difficult to remove 5200: just use West's specific-for--purpose caulk remover. He said he always used 5200 since it made a superior seal.

Whichever, leave at least a couple of turns to go with that ratchet wrench, at least for a day; then tighten down fully. If you tighten down fully at the outset, you'll starve the joints and get leaks. Waiting a day allows the caulk to set up something like a firm gasket. No leaks.

This was no secret: everybody knew it so didn't say it, at least during the time I was working on my deck gear. Had to do it all over again. Only reason I say it now.

And as far as I can tell, Judy B. is the true queen of DIY boat maintenance.

Speaking of life lines.....I would like to through bolt my stanchions and add a second lower life line to my 1974's original equipment. I haven't seen a replacement stanchion, so has anyone some experience with this project and how did you go about it? Thanks, Techlin

Any one have an idea of the upper life line length for a "late" model
    C-27
    (mines an 85).
I have a couple of sets in the garage and I'm hoping to be able to re-use
one of them (budget constraints and all).
