I used plastic electrical ties in my mast about five-six years ago when I re-wired it and have not had any problems. The wires are still quiet. No clanging whatsoever. I set the ties each foot or so and in addition to creating a sturdy harness, the tie tails, which are about six inches long have held the weight of the wires. Electrical ties seem like a perfect solution to me. Of course, my halyards are external.
