A group of us (Laura Kammermeier, Mike Powers, Tina Phillips, Lang Elliott and
me) headed down to Stewart Park to watch, and mostly photograph, birds this
morning. After focussing much of our attention on the Common Mergansers, we
headed into the woods to try to see the Great Horned Owl nest. Eventually, we
did glimpse the owl in the nest hole, but suddenly a loud Kerfuffle of Krows
approaching alerted us that another owl was about to arrive. Indeed, one flew
in with its corvid entourage in hot pursuit. The owl landed near the nest tree
but the corvid chorus harrassed it so much that it flew to several other
perches before finally settling down. We were able to watch for a good 15
minutes, during which it was interesting to see the owl snapping at the crows
as they mobbed it. (Yes, I took many photos, none of which are good enough to
ever emerge from my trash file!)

Finally the crows lost interest and gradually all left leaving the owl in
peace. And so did we.....
