WESTERN GREBE (Extralimital) ROSS’S GOOSE SNOW GOOSE NORTHERN GOSHAWK GOLDEN EAGLE BALD EAGLE SANDHILL CRANE ICELAND GULL GLAUCOUS GULL SHORT-EARED OWL SNOWY OWL SAW-WHET OWL BOHEMIAN WAXWING GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 2/28: A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen on East Road. 3/2: A SANDHILL CRANE was seen flying over the Audubon Center. 3/4: A ROSS’S GOOSE was seen at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Oswego County ------------ 2/29: 5 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were spotted on Bargy Road north of North Church Road. 4 SANDHILL CRANES were seen near Amboy Center by the 4-H Center. Derby Hill ------------ Hawks were counted on four days this week. The best day was 3/2 when the first (all 3) accipiters arrived. It was a great EAGLE day with 8 BALDS and 11 GOLDENS! Just as impressive was the final count of 92,300 SNOW GEESE flying over. The final tally for the week was 269 Raptors. Jefferson County ------------ 2/29: 300 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen at the corner of Rt. 121 and Washburn near Ellisburg. 3/1: A GLAUCOUS GULL and an ICELAND GULL were seen at the Jefferson County Landfill. Onondaga County ------------ 2/29: Nearly 3,000 SNOW GEESE were spotted on Snaneateles Lake. 3/2: A SAW-WHET OWL was seen at Beaver Lake Nature Center. 3/3: FOS WOOD DUCKS were seen at Three Rivers WMA near the Eagle’s nest. A SNOWY OWL was still being seen at Hancock Airport. Lewis County ------------ 3/4: A very rare sighting of a GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH was reported from a home north of Booneville. A photo was sent to Cornell and verified the ID. Today numerous birders met with success in seeing the bird. The address is 2788 State Route 12D Booneville and the homeowner is Nancy Loomis. She is a birder and is amenible to birders coming to see the bird. Please call (315-723-2527) to make an appointment.
