August 20 , 2012

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)
------------

     8/23: A juvenile CURLEW SANDPIPER was found at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. In 
all 15 species of shorebirds were located. Other highlights were BAIRD’S 
SANDPIPER, WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, WILSON’S PHALAROPE, 
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and SANDHILL CRANE.
     8/24: The CURLEW SANDPIPER was relocated at Knox-Marsellus Marsh. Also 
found there were BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED 
PLOVER, SANDHILL CRANE and three PEREGRINE FALCONS. At Benning Marsh 12 species 
of Shorebirds were found. At the Visitor’s Center LONG-BILLED and SHORT-BILED 
DOWITCHERS were seen.
     8/26: A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was found at the Visitor’s Center.
     8/27: 17 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were found along the Wildlife Drive. At 
Knox-Marsellus Marsh BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, AMERICAN GOLDEN 
PLOVER, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and SANDHILL CRANE were found.


Oswego County
------------

     8/21: The SANDWICH TERN continues on the big sandbar at Sandy Pond. Also 
seen this day were STILT SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, BAIRD’S SANDPIPER, LEAST and SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER 
and SEMIPALMATED PLOVER.
     8/23: BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER joined the SANDWICH TERN and the rest of the 
group at Sandy Pond.
     8/26: Two WHIMBRELS were seen in the mix at Sandy Pond. The SANDWICH TERN  
continues. The Buff-breasted Sandpiper did not. Five COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were 
seen moving over a residence in Hastings


Oneida County
------------

     Six species of Shorebirds including BAIRD’S SANDPIPER were seen at Delta 
lake. also seen were two MERLIN and a BALD EAGLE.


Oonodaga County
------------

     8/26: A BAIRD’S SANDPIPER and a MERLIN were at a wet spot along New Seneca 
Turnpike north of Skanateles


Jefferson County
------------

     8/22: Six species of shorebirds including BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and BAIRD’S 
SANDPIPER were seen at El Dorado State Park.
