I also last night heard a sound right outside of my bedroom window that I didn’t recognize at first. But, a bit later from the same tree came the more typical screech owl whinny, so am pretty sure it was the same bird. --Marty

I’ve heard that also: clear descending rather than whinny descending but followed by other EASO distinct sounds, so concluded it was the same bird. I’ve been hearing EASO loud whinnies just in the last couple of weeks, first time this year, so I guess I have a male imoving around checking out the territory or advertising once again. It was repeated 3-4 times and then followed by a repeated whistle on a single, high note. The timbre was similar to a saw-whet owl, but the tempo was different. It was heard at 1 AM at the border between a field and scrubby forest.
