Nice, Dave! “Irruption” seems to be the preferred term for these mass movements of young Chickadees. Andrea Patterson posted the following piece on April 18, 2013, about observations of the phenomenon over a number years at Braddock Bay Bird Observatory, where Lake Ontario poses the barrier that the birds pile up against:
