This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of May 01, 2022 Highlights ------------ RED THROATED LOON AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN GLOSSY IBIS MISSISSIPPI KITE BLACK VULTURE PIPING PLOVER BLACK-LEGGED KITTYWAKE RED-HEADED WOODPECKER ORCHARD ORIOLE EVENING GROSBEAK LINCOLN’S SPARROW GRASSHOPPER SPARROW CERULEAN WARBLER CAPE MAY WARBLER PROTHONATARY WARBLER SWAINSON’S THRUSH Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma and Montezuma Wetlands Complex ---------- 5/2: A GLOSSY IBIS was still being seen at the Visitor’s Center and wa seen through the 4th. 5/3: WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER were seen at Carncross Road. 5/4: An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen in flight over the wildlife Drive. 5/8: A PROTHONOTARY WARBLER and a CERULEAN warbler were seen in the forested area of Armitage Road. An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen on VanDyne Spoor Road. Cayuga County ------------ 5/2: A CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen at Fair Haven State Park. 5/7: A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen at Fair Haven State Park. Oswego County ------------ 5/3: 5 PIPING PLOVERS are being seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario.A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet. 3/5: A MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen near Hinman Road north of Pulaski. A RED-THROATED LOON was seen at Lake Neahtawanta in Fulton. A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continues at Derby Hill Bird Observatory on Lake Ontario. 5/6: A CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen at Sunset Bay Park on Lake Ontario. Onondaga County ------------ 5/2: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Cedar Bay Park in Fayetteville. 5/7: A RED-THROATED LOON was seen on Onondaga Lake from the Liverpool Marina. Madison County ------------ 5/6: A SWAINSON’S THRUSH was found in the Earlvile State Forest. 5/7: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota. Oneida County ------------ 5/3: 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS were found onBrown Tract Road in Remson. 5/4: 2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were again seen on Lakeshore Road just south ofVerona Beach State Park. On the 7th. they were seen in the Park itself. 5/6: 9 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at alder Creek. A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen on Perimeter Road in Rome. 5/7: An ORCHARD ORIOLE was seen at Spring Farm Nature Sanctuary south of Clinton. 5/8: A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen near Rt. 12 north of Waterville.
