Hi People,

Just wanted to say two things :

- Good luck with the campaign, I think that there are other ways to
solve the Syrian crisis/war than putting people like Bassel in jail.

- Why only Bassel? I am afraid I don’t agree here. And I am having the
same remark on other human rights campaigns in Tunisia as well. I suggest that
you expose in freebassel.org how many other detainees are jailed in Syria
without any trial, what are the reasons, is it a martial law that is applied,
what did these guys to make the system put them in jail. I’m sorry to say that
but it is unfair to focus on Bassel just because he is an open source / cc /
Wikipedia guy. Ok suppose the campaign succeeds, Bassel is out of jail. What
about the others. I think it is ok to take examples, and to personalize the
causes we are fighting for, but we need also to have a global view.

تحياتي،

رفيق ديناصور

Hi all

As promised, here are the details of the Free Bassel event on Friday.

Feel free to send it on to anyone you know who might be interested - we're not
looking for hundreds of people, but we don't want anyone to be left out.

This Friday, 15 March, is the one-year anniversary of the detainment in Syria
of Bassel Khartabil, a prominent open sourcer, creative commoner, and general
free culture advocate. It’s also the second anniversary of the start of the
conflict in Syria. The FREEBASSEL project (http://freebassel.org) has declared
it a day of worldwide events and activities to honor and draw attention to
Bassel's incarceration.

As part of Free Bassel Day, CC, Wikimedia and EFF are teaming up for drinks and
activities to honor Bassel.

Where: Wikimedia offices - 149 New Montgomery Street, 3rd Floor, San Francisco
When: Friday 15 March 5pm-7pm
What: drinks, snacks, Free Bassel crafts, and a Freed Bassel photo shoot

Bring: bring food, drink and your love of the open web

RSVP: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3556576817 (if you can, so we have an
idea of numbers)

If you can't make it to San Francisco, find out about the other many events
going on around the world - Paris, Beijing, Amsterdam, Hong Kong - at
freebasselday.org. Or the site has tons of idea about how you can commemorate
Bassel on your own - make a poster, edit wikipedia, tweet something.
