Hi Marvin,
Thanks for your answer, and sure, there are always different solutions. Since I was not sure how to solve these tasks, Ive just tried to understand the solution in the PG. Well, there is a general task which says that it is not allowed to have more than one routing protocol on an interface. The final configs configured the F0/0 interface of R4 into OSPF Area1, in order to bring out area 1 to the switches and then configure the virtual links over it (if I understand that right). This ethernet interface is also configured under the eigrp process, so this violates the general task. Would it be a possible solution to configure on all Cat the VLAN567 interface and include that in area0. Then just create the other loopbacks for area 15 and also place the Loopback0 of the switch into area 115. To me, this way we just expand the area0 over the switches and they will act as ABR, and due to that we have no problems connecting are 15 and 115 to area0. No virtual links would be necessary. Without looking at the PG, I guess I would do this solution but maybe Im wrong and I miss something.... What do you think about this solution? If youre referring to a general requirement of not adding addresses, I dont see that listed in the intro info for this particular lab. Also, remember that any solution provided is not necessarily the only way or the best way, just the way that author decided to do things. At a minimum, reading the section should tell you that the switches will be ABRs, so you will need some sort of connection to area 0 virtual link, tunnel, etc.. Additionally, you should be aware of the potential issues peering to a Cat with OSPF regarding MTU. Marvin Greenlee, CCIE #12237 (R&S, SP, Sec) Senior Technical Instructor - IPexpert, Inc. Requirements: -Both Catalyst Switches (in reality we have 4) shold have an interface created an be part of Area15 -The Catalyst loopback interfaces should be placed in Area 115 The PG has almost no explanation and the final configs are somehow weird to me because the solution violates general requirements. I do not understand why on the Switches they create Vlan interface 40. Only to attach area 1 to the Catalyst and let the Virtual Links from area 15 go over it? If so, why not create a vlan interface 567 and attach area 0 to the Catalyst? Should that not be allowed? In this case we would not need the virtual links at all, isnt it? Can anyone explain the configuration for these two tasks? Would be very thankful... Regards Roger
