For me First thing, is I made sure I nailed down the Vol 1 workbook really hard, simulation and constant review with my bibles at the side (TCP/IP Vol1 and 2, Router Security Firewall, Cisco QoS etc - all Cisco Press books).
Secondly, I've created GNS3 templates to simulate Vol1 technologies (mostly on F.R, Routing Protocols, Qos, Security, Network Management, IPv6). Couldn't do the fancy stuff for Catalyst Layer 2 features (QoS, L2TP, MST, etc) on GNS3, this is where Proctorlabs comes in. Then Vol2 will give light on how things are interrelated and how things are built on top of each other. And Vol3, will challenge you if you are really ready for the monster. Cheers!
