Michael,

My suggestion would be to use the following suggestion from:
http://www.internetworkexpert.com/topology.htm (No offense to IPE fans and
staff; perhaps it is time that IPE put their two cents in the matter and
create one so I won't have to recommend another, :-))

However, as the 3560s were way out of my budget range, I settled for 3550s.
Everything can be purchased off eBay for really good prices, including
the serial and octal cables, mount kits, flash/memory upgrade kits, screws,
rack, you name it. For me it was a great experience, it taught me a lot and
boosted my confidence and love for Cisco products--nothing like touching the
stuff, opening it up and playing around with it. I can tell you right now
that the most expensive stuff you'll buy are the 1841s (roughly $500+) and
3550s (roughly $800+), the rest are dirt cheap (from $75-$150). And if you
couple this lab with a Dynamips setup on a laptop (if you can afford it) for
traveling purposes, you will be well on your way, or you can setup your lab
up for remote access when away from your lab.

If you decide to do it, i wish you well and have lots of fun.

Ernest
