Hey Ed,

Type-5 is generated by the ASBR when you redistribute a route into OSPF.
Type-4 is generated by an ABR not an ASBR. A type-4 basically tells routers
how to get to the next-hop or forwarding-address of an external route.

You should check out my blog posts on OSPF and the type-4 LSA from a few
months back.

One more thing -- The type-4 and type-5 has nothing to do with where you are
redistributing things from.
