The 3500Xl is a layer2 only switch; you will need 3550 with IP base code at a 
bare minimum. Also Cisco has removed the 3550 from the actual lab exam and 
replaced it with four 3560's. If you can afford it go with some 24 port 3560's, 
otherwise you can still do a good portion using 3550's.
