Speed will play a role, so come up with what method works best for you Steve: Teamwork ;) From: Di Bias, Steve [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: October-13-10 5:58 PM To: Jason Maynard; 'Amer Mustafa'; [email protected] Subject: RE: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Network Advertisements. Yes this is true and I have gotten in the habit of using this method, however it seems faster using copy and paste with the second method. Also it really does just come down to preference on what works for you Steve _____ From: Jason Maynard [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2010 2:50 PM To: Di Bias, Steve; 'Amer Mustafa'; [email protected] Subject: RE: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Network Advertisements. The more specific network statement ensures that you are advertising only out the links that you specify 150.100.24.X 0.0.0.0 - includes the indentified link ONLY 150.100.24.0 0.0.0.255 - may advertise more than you want. I always do the following (providing the requirements have no restrictions) R1 router ospf 1 router-id 1.1.1.1 network 150.100.24.X 0.0.0.0 area X passive-interface default no passive-interface [interfaceX/X] From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Di Bias, Steve Sent: October-13-10 5:38 PM To: Amer Mustafa; [email protected] Subject: Re: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Network Advertisements. There is no difference, it really just a matter of preference. However in the actual exam it may come down to speed. If you are using notepad to copy/paste using the 150.100.24.0 0.0.0.255 is faster but it's really up to you. HTH Thank you, Steve Di Bias Network Engineer - Information Systems Valley Health System - Las Vegas Office - 702- 369-7594 Cell - 702-241-1801 <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Amer Mustafa Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2010 2:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Network Advertisements. Example : R1 S0/0/0 : IP address is 150.100.24.2 / 24 R2 S0/0/0 : IP address is 150.100.24.4 / 24 lets say we want to enable OSPF on this segment, so would it make any difference if we type on R1 : router ospf network 150.100.24.2 0.0.0.0 area 0 OR router ospf network 150.100.24.0 0.0.0.255 area 0 Becuase i have seen both during configurations , is there any recommendations which syntax we should use and why ? and can i always make it 0.0.0.0 with exact IP except in the LAN environments ?
