Hi Lovett, I have a four year old Core2Duo with 4GB of ram running ubuntu which can do a full IPExpert topology. Dont waste your time with windows unless you are running it on that new Chinese thing thats been on the news lately. However some people have had better luck with this - look at Tysons blog.
To answer some of your other queries: The modules are relevant to whatever the topology is. Use whatever is in the suggested .net file 7200s seem to run nicer than ISRs. NFI why. Possibly a hardware architecture thing. This may or may not be the case with a current version of GNS3 and/or IOS. GNS3 does not have a traffic generator (which I am aware of). However IOS does. its called ip sla. You could also consider using iperf on the host PC itself.
