I think this is the best way of doing it. Rather than spending buckets of time trying to figure out how on earth to get a quad nic card from the rubbish bin to talk to 4 virtualised routers then trunk to some real switch, and then not know where your problem is when you are doing the lab, do the "straightforward" stuff that you know works with GNS3 and do the stuff that requires real hardware with a hired rack.
Yes, I realise I did not do this but I also never said my way was perfect. Naturally "perfect" is having your own physical kit identical to the blueprint sitting in your spare room that you can access 25/8 but that is hardly cost effective now is it?
