unless something has changed a person would have to defeat the copy protection 
to view it on the iPAD because they are encrypted with fileopen which does not 
have an ipad plugin.

Hi Mikel,
 
You can't connect the HDD to an iPAD directly so you need to upload them via 
iTunes to your PC and sync your iPAD.  (In otherwords transfer them to the iPAD)
 
If they don't work, or you want smaller files, one thing you can do is convert 
the video through an open source program called "Handbrake" to re-encode them.  
It doesnt take too long (PC power depending) and you can batch them up over 
night if necessary.  Each file can be reduced in size by rescaling to a smaller 
resolution without much loss in quality.  I have done this for all my training 
videos without any problems.  Obviously test with the smaller videos to see 
what works for you.
 
PDF's work well - I have many CCIE reading materials on mine.
