I'm not going to whine and moan about this topic, but I think that with all
the global economic and standard of living differences, different markets
even within one country, etc., we could get a response from every person on
this list and they would all differ.

Here in the US, CCIEs working in Silicon Valley or near Washington DC can
make a princely sum, while those in rural or far exurb areas may make a
good bit less. It doesn't mean anyone is ahead -- consider the living
expenses in DC or San Francisco compared to central Pennsylvania or North
Dakota.

Where I live, 2 counties and about 50 miles from Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, CCIEs typically make in the $90K US range. The salary might
be 30K higher in Philadelphia, but the demands might also be higher, cost
of living within the city is MUCH higher, etc.

I make less at my current employer than I could elsewhere, but I enjoy the
environment and customers, my management has realistic utilization
expectations for a consultant, I'm getting full support in my CCIE efforts,
and my office is 8/10 of a mile from my house. Those types of things have
become more important to me than getting absolute top dollar.

Our company typically bills $145-175/hr for network design, route/switch,
and security consulting.
