Hey All,

The route-distinguisher's purpose is to make an IPv4 prefix globally unique
within the MPLS VPN M-BGP environment. I'm good with that. Some references
I've seen suggest setting a unique RD per VRF (or per site if you prefer to
think of it that way), so the CUST-A VRF on R1 uses RD 1:100 and the CUST-A
VRF on R2 uses RD 1:200.

Would it not be a safe assumption that the two (or three, or 20) CUST-A
sites (in other words, that entire VPN) would not have a uniqueness problem
with prefixes? Couldn't we safely use RD 1:100 for all CUST-A sites on all
PE routers without any real risk of a VPNv4 prefix collision?

I guess I'm curious whether the general recommendation is to *always* use a
unique value no matter what, or if it's common to use the same RD value for
multiple sites of the same VPN.

Any insight or real-world experience would be appreciated. Thanks!
