Not rare at all. PoE is more expensive, uses more power, is deeper (my lab
rack was tilted so depth of the switches mattered for me).

I got 48-port ones because they were what seemed more abundant on eBay when
I bought my first couple 3550s and then I wanted the ports to line up on
all the others as I added to the collection to all my lab switches are 48
port.

I have a 3750 breakout switch for QinQ from my Dynamips lab server, but
it's not part of the lab topology.
