I was able to install it UCCX 7.0 with retail Windows Server 2003 disk in VMWare. After installing 2003, I installed IIS and then went through and compared a production box to my vmware. Started and set to "automatic" services that should be. Disabled services that needed to be disabled... and installed the reg following registry hack... worked for me!

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cisco Systems, Inc.\Systems Info\OS Image]
"Version"="2003.1.1"

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cisco Systems\Model]
"Hardware"="7835H05"
"Memory"="2048"
"Speed"="2333"

I used the disc labeled HP 78xx-H1/H2 2003.1.3a and it worked fine in
VMWare.

So were mine. I'm assuming it's detecting VMWare and allowing it to
proceed. I used the HP disks when I did it.

The disks for IPCCX in my kit are OS 2003.1.1 and 2003.1.4a. The disks are

labeled for either HP or IBM servers. I heven't tried them out yet, but
I'm assuming there is some kind of hardware detection routine in there ...

I'll pop one in and see what happens tho. Otherwise I'll see if I can get
vmware friendly image using a torrent.

The CUCM and Unity disks are a different story of course ... no issues
there at all.

You can install the Cisco IPT OS on VMWare directly with no issues. The
only thing that's different is that when installed on an MCS server, it
just loads. If you install it on a non Cisco server (like VMWare), you
need a license key to activate the O/S.

The O/S disks that come with the NFR kit include license numbers. Just
do a regular O/S build and pop the license number in to activate it. I
built mine out that way and it works just fine.

Mick,

What is the registry hack you are talking about? I have the NFR kit, but
no W2K3 appliance OS media. Is this similar to the CCM4.1 regirty hack
that allows you to install CCM on a non CMS windows 2K?

Hi Koen

I purchased the NFR 7.0 kit from Cisco and I have UCMPUB + UCMSUB +
UCMGR all running from VM's under vmware.

Cisco really did themselves proud in respect of VMWare and default lab
units.

The two issues I've run into are ..

   1. Build from ISO's not the physical DVD - I had loads of issues
      when building from the DVD I think it was timeout related.
   2. Make sure you've got a verifiable NTP server running - the SUB
      won't talk to the PUB unless you do and you get various excuses
      (CUCME does register phones properly etc either for that matter).

I have run the images on both VMWare Server hosted on Ubuntu and also
VMWare Fusion on my MacBook.

The one I'm struggling completing with is UCCX - using the reg hack
I've managed to install it on an up to date W2k3 box but I'm getting
JTAPI version errors - its up and running but not talking properly to
the UCMPUB ?

Best regards

Mick
