If you upgrade to version 8.X you can add LDAP filters for that exact
reason...

Not sure..

This is my first enterprise deployment that wants to do it.

We only have 2-3 thousand users in NA..ASIA and Europe could push it to
5,000

Does anybody know if there is any advise regarding the maximum number of
imported users?

As we can add only 5 directories at the most, I had to point some
less-specific OUs to include every user I wanted, so now I have 134.000
users in the base! And it takes around 3 hours to sync.

Can this cause performance issues?

instance.

Has it imported any users yet? Usually when this doesn't work its either
because the LDAP User Search Base is wrong, which it doesn't warn you about,
or the Cisco DirSync service isn't activated. Also which it won't warn you
about. It will just sit there in either case and look like it is trying to
sync.

Past that this link has some outstanding troubleshooting.
