dear bbers
the closing date for a protein crystallography postdoc in newcastle, 1st
posted on this BB about a
month ago is 7th october. the newcastle protein crystallography lab is
excellently equipped with
modern xray facilities and computing. we have plenty of synchrotron
access. the project will
involve solving the structure of large (1.2MDa) signalling complexes, as
well as other, slightly
less challenging proteins. we have just had a paper accepted (subject to
minor revisions) by
PNAS on the structure and functional properties of part of the
signalling complex. the project
is funded by the bbsrc, and they have provided for a salary enhancement
for this post, equivalent
to 4 spine points. this means that there are sufficient funds in this
grant to fund a postdoc with
up to 4 years experience for the full 3 year term, or, should it be
appropriate, to give an
enhanced salary to someone with less experience.
the institute is just finishing a significant round of refurbishment and
we have all the facilities
in house (eg SPR, ITC, MS, AUC, CD etc) that are often very useful
adjuncts to protein
crystallography. newcastle is a vibrant city adjacent to the beautiful
northumberland
countryside where you can walk along hadrian's wall and 10 miles from
the coast where you
can surf at tynemouth longsands without fear of shark attack. you may
get pneumoniae, but
that's another issue.......
CVs to be sent to me, please, and if you have already submitted an
application, could i ask
you to be patient. decisions will be made regarding this post a few days
after the closing
date, 7th october.
