I've run into issues on SuSE 10.0 using g77, because their blas/lapack packages are compiled with gfortran and this results in lots of fun breakage. If you are using a gfortran-compiled system and want to use g77 for CCP4, try using as many internal CCP4 versions of libraries as you can.
