Sorry I am late to the party. I finally broke down and got an iMac-intel.
I made a fink package for gfortran-4.0.3 from the gnu stable source code
release, and it compiles, and compiles the rest of ccp4. Everything
passed the tests, but in order to get molrep to pass the test, I had to
change molrep_FLAGS='-fno-second-underscore -O1' to
molrep_FLAGS='-fno-second-underscore -O0'. That might be an artifact of
my particular setup.

For those of you running gfortran 4.0.3 on an intel mac, please be warned
that the -O2 is giving strange behavior. The optimisation level for fortran
code within the ccp4 suite (FOPTIM) should be reduced to -O1.
