As was mentioned previously in regards to the CCP4 downloads, managed
lab computers may need only one download but account for many
installations. The statistics are interesting but reflect what exactly?
I'm happy (lazy!) and thankful to download well compiled binaries as
well as source code for our OS X boxes (several thanks to Bill and
Dave Gohara). I compile and/or test all on my PowerBook G4, then
(depending on the program) distribute the result to between 13-29
other G5, G4, and PowerBook Macs. Count 14 minimum in the OSX column
for each of my downloads. I'm sure there are similar situations in
other labs.
Cheers,
Jeff

There might be some degree of fuzziness in the statistics, since
Mac OS X and GNU/Linux users might be more likely to install from
source code than windows users. I never install OSX (or Linux)
binaries if the source code is available.
Also, don't windoze people do this thing that involves reinstalling
their OS every so often? Maybe it is just the same 3 people that
keep downloading the windoze version?

After the shock that 50% of CCP4 downloads are for Windoze, we
have checked the statistics for SHELX downloads, which averaged
over the last few months about 10 per day for the .tgz files each
containing all the binaries for a particular OS and about 2 per
day for the .tgz file of all the sources. Ignoring the sources,
which would be needed for other OSes but may include e.g. Linux
users who compile just for the fun of it, the statistics are:
Linux 47%, Windowe 32% and MacOSX(G4/G5) 21%.
